“The only time to eat diet food is while you are waiting for the steak to cook,”

Julia Child (1912 – 2004)

That line epitomises the character of this little book of humorous quotes, common-sense techniques, modern and historical advice & tips, for the kitchen, complied by award-winning author Lewis Esson.
“Keep Calm & Cook On”, the very title is advice itself that any chef or cook under pressure can take solace in. You’re not saving lives after all and it is only food! How best to prepare your cheese board, what to look for in fresh fish, the secrets of a good salad dressing and many other helpful snippets of wisdom are compiled herein.

“I believe that if ever I had to practice cannibalism, I might manage,
if there were enough tarragon around.” James Beard – Chef & Food Writer (1903-1985)

Quadrille Publishing

Which foods combat stress, which are calming, which give you an energy boost and which can sparkle up your love life? All are answered with a combination of experience and wit from some of the most famous cooks, journalists and other famous people who simply adored their precious moments at the table.

“We should look for someone to eat & drink with before looking for something to eat & drink.”
Epicurus – Ancient Greek Philosopher (341 – 270 B.C.)

Marcel Boulestin, James Beard, Sophia Loren, Sir Walter Raleigh, the Dalai Lama, Nigella Lawson and many others from stage & screen, kitchen & couch have had an opinion on food matters and they have been collated here in a handy pocket-sized hardback book.

Author Lewis Esson

Lewis Esson is one of the most experienced editors of food books. Contributing editor of the English edition of Larousse Pratique and of The Good Cook's Encyclopaedia, his own books include Mouthwatering Mediterranean, The Gate Cookbook and Breakfast at the Wolseley, with A. A. Gill. How the British Fell in Love with Food, which he compiled for the Guild of Food Writers, won the Gourmand Award for Best Culinary History Book in the World 2010.

Winners at the Irish Food Awards - Blas na hEireann 2011

The annual Blas na hEireann/National Irish Food Awards celebrate and reward the very best of Irish produce, and the passionate, driven individuals behind it.

All Irish Food companies, from North and South of the island of Ireland, are invited to submit food products that are commercially available to the public in at least three commercial outlets, including Market stalls.

Held as part of the annual Dingle Peninsula Food & Wine Festival, the winners of the 2011 were announced on this evening. The official presentation and awards ceremony by Ross Golden-Bannon, Peter Ward, Birgitta Hedin-Curtin and Martin Shanahan was attended by retail buyers, journalists and chefs as well as local visitors to the festival.

This is a quick List of all the Winners at the Blas na hEireann Awards 2011 which I put together through thanks to the on-the-spot reporting of Artisan Food Brand Master Keith Bohanna via his Twitter posts.

Latest News Update! Sunday 2nd October.
For the Complete Results they have been just published here on the Blas na hEireann website

On a personal note, I think all major events like this should have their own Social Media station at their event, to help interested parties (like me, that couldn't make it to the event) keep up-to-date with the details & results via Twitter & Facebook.
